GIS Analyst

Reporting to the Senior Manager or Engineering this role is responsible for the acquisition, creation and management of AEAG’s collection of spatial datasets. It provides on-going support to Development, Engineering, Construction and Operations teams through the interpretation of spatial data and the development of maps and drawings.  The position is based in Melbourne.

Key Responsibilities
To create, distribute, manage and acquire GIS and CAD datasets, maps and drawings to meet project and bid requirements.  This should include the following areas:

Project Development
Assist in the development of projects through the production and analysis of spatial data and maps. The GIS Analyst will be responsible for:
·        Management and creation of project specific geo-databases and datasets;
·        Play a key role in developing and communicating project infrastructure layouts and identifying environmental and other constraints;
·        Provide spatial data and information to internal and external parties;
·        Manage contractors to provide aerial photography, satellite imagery, LiDAR survey and/or ground surveys (Digital Terrain Model);
·        Capture on-site spatial information using GPS technology or supervise the collection of this data;
·        Produce infrastructure photomontages for internal and external visual analysis;
·        Assist in the identification of new project sites and undertake subsequent land title searches;
·        Assist in the creation of accurate, publication quality maps and diagrams suitable for commercial bids and submissions to government and other external stakeholders.

Project Delivery and Construction
The GIS Analyst will play a key role in the in-house design of projects including site, road and electrical layouts:
·        Work closely with Project Managers and Engineering colleagues to create project drawings and related documentation of infrastructure layouts, and civil and electrical designs, in CAD and GIS platforms;
·        Provide spatial data and information to internal and external parties;
·        Assist in the accurate, on-site micro-siting of infrastructure locations;
·        Liaise with surveyors or similar contractors to ensure captured data meets project specifications.

Data Management
As the custodian of AEAG spatial data, the GIS Analyst will ensure that all data is current and maintained to a high quality. This includes the following:
·        Manage and maintain project geo-databases and large spatial datasets;
·        Create, prepare, validate, transform, extract and manipulate data;
·        Audit and maintain GIS datasets to ensure quality and accuracy;
·        Assist in the acquisition and distribution of spatial data;
·        Gain and maintain knowledge of technologies and standards related to GIS and CAD;

·        Manage GIS and other related software licenses.
·        Degree in Geomatic Engineering or similar tertiary qualification.
·        Demonstrate a high-level understanding of GIS, surveying, land title/cadastral, GPS, photogrammetry and satellite imagery principles and the ability to acquire these data sets.
·        Advanced use of ESRI ArcGIS Software.
·        Experience using CAD software, preferable AutoCAD Civil 3D or Map 3D extensions (3D modelling an advantage), Earthworks software such as Terra 3D or Paydirt.
·        Previous experience with GIS Data Management
·        Advanced use of Adobe Photoshop an advantage.
·        Experience with programming and customisation of ESRI ArcGIS software would be an advantage. 
·         Willing and available for occasional travel to project sites in Australia.
