ACCIONA Infrastructure Australia is looking for a Safe Operations Manager to be part of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project.

Position Summary:


To work as an integrated effective member of, assist and lead the Nexus Delivery H&S Team to provide exceptional H&S support services to the wider project team. To assist the project deploying best practical safety while delivering compliance with legislative requirements. In addition, assist the H&S Manager to implement the project WHS Management Plan while acting as a mentor for the WHS team.


Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the effective management of the Project through timely, strategic solutions where appropriate within the appointed authority limits.
- Assist in developing and implementing H&S plans and strategies for Nexus Delivery.
- Assist in the providing weekly and monthly reporting of safety information.
- Recruit and co-ordinate the activities of the H&S team to ensure best for project support to the wider project team.
- Provide coaching, support, guidance, mentoring and advice to the H&S team.
- Provide coaching, support, guidance, mentoring and advice to the Wider Project team on safe construction techniques, and application of safety to other aspects of the job.
- Ensure an effective workers compensation and rehabilitation system is deployed and robustly utilised. Liaise with key stakeholders effectively in Rehabilitation matters.
- Aid in emergency response and rehabilitation as required.
- Ensure the preparation and delivery of Toolbox Talks occurs at regular intervals to the wider project team.
- Conduct site specific safety training for staff as needed.
- Undertake effective Site Safety Inspections ensuring safety standards (AS4801 Qld & Federal legislation & Nexus Delivery requirements) are met and monitored across the site.
- Ensure all incidents are investigated thoroughly and recommend remedial actions.
- Promote and drive the spirit of positive safety cultures (Zero Harm) by:
- Actively engaging all Nexus Delivery personnel including subcontractors.
- Demonstrate commitment through personal example, leadership, care, support, attitude and participation in Safety initiatives.
- Actively seek and praise good safe work practice.
- Assist in ensuring construction works are delivered utilising staging and methodologies that provide safe and reliable community interface.
- Corrects, selects, interprets, understands, acts on and distributes necessary safety information and site instructions to Supervisors and wider project team.
- Refers industrial Relations disputes and discussions to the relevant Department Manager.
- Promote and report on the effective implementation of the Safety Management Plan including the implementation of the following:
- The Zero Harm ethos including Induction Program.
- Process and Systems audits (internal and external) and reviews to ensure conformance.
- Compliance with provisions of the WH&S Act and Regulations and appropriate Codes of Practice.
- Assist in maintaining the following systems & processes across the site in conjunction with the Project Director.
- Emergency Response Plan.
- Hazard Identification.
- Incident investigation and reporting.
- Field Inspections program.
- Maintain effective working relationships with WHSQ and other statutory representatives.
- Participate constructively as a member of the Senior Management Team.
- All PD’s and PDR’s performed and signed on time and according to the Nexus Delivery procedures.
- Always uphold Nexus Delivery’s vision and values in all that you do.
- Promote workplace health and safety, environmental sustainability and a pleasant and productive work environment.
- Manage effective relationships with Nexus Delivery Project subcontractors, suppliers, community and stakeholders to optimise performance across the Project.
- Ensure the effective management of the Project through timely, strategic solutions where appropriate within the appointed authority limits.
- Provide coaching, support, guidance, mentoring and advice to the Wider Project team on safe construction techniques, and application of safety to other aspects of the job.
- Participate constructively as a member of the Senior Management Team.
- Adhere to your roles Health and Safety Responsibilities and KPI’s are outlined in the Health and Safety Management Plan (TSRC-HS-HSMP-PLA).


Experience and Qualifications:

- General Construction Induction (white card).
- Previous experience in large civil infrastructure projects (10 yrs + preferred).
- Diploma in OHS / WHS, as a minimum.
- Certificate 4 – Workplace Training and Assessing.
- Rehabilitation and Return To Work Coordinator Certification.
- First aid Certification.
